Hi,
I had a VPN configured for work which has been working forever but stopped working after the 10.9.4 upgrade.
Very basic setup:
L2TP over IPSec
Server address filled out
Account name filled out
Authentication settings
User Authentication - password kept empty, so it prompts for password
Machine authentication through certificate - certificate selected
Advanced
IPv4 over PPP
IPv6 automatic
When connecting after the 10.9.4 update after I entered my password and hitting connect it always says: the L2TP server did not respond .. what changed?

Simply delete a52Codec.component (which is a leftover from Perian) and ALL DONE! AC3 audio will start playing immediately without the need to reboot or do anything.

Autofill has stopped working after installing latest update to OS X Mountail Lion (10.8). Latest of many problems with this OS - wish I had never upgraded to it. Can anyone help?
Hi Eric, it is Safari but I thunk I've solved it by dragging the autofill into the safari toolbar and clicking on it when I want to use the fearture. Nothing else worked. this OS is a crock as far as I am concerned.

I am having problem with my vpn i am using Express vpn on windows 8.1 64 bit last week everything was working fine. Now i am being disconnected every 60 seconds then i have to reconnect it and again it works for 60 seconds.
I am using 3g connection through hotspot of my cell phone. They have an android app that is working great in my cell phone. But it's not working on my computer. I contacted their support they said that is problem with my OS.
My connection uses 3G connection through UDP from port 9200.
How is it possible to work on my cell phone but not on my PC ?
Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you

Since this VPN can worked well last week. I suspect it you have configured any group policy in this environment. You may using safe mode to ensure if the issue persists.
Moreover, we can gather the netmon trace and RRAS with event log to track this issue.
Please help me collect RRAS traces and network traces on a problematic client and the NPS server. To do this,
a. Download Microsoft Network Monitor Tool from the following link and install it on the client and the server.

d. Click 'Tools', click 'Options', switch to the 'Capture' tap, and set the 'Temporary capture file size (MB)' to 200 on the client and the server.
e. On the NPS server and the wireless client, run the following command under the command prompt to enable RRAS tracing.
netsh ras set tracing * enabled
f. Click 'New Capture', click 'Start' on the Capture menu in the two Network Monitor windows.
g. Now from the client, try to establish the wireless connection to reproduce the problem.
h. Once the problem occurs, click 'Stop' on the Capture menu on the client and the server, and click 'File'->'Save as' to save the captured files.
i. Run the following command under the command prompt on both the NPS server and the client to disable RRAS tracing.
netsh ras set tracing * disabled
j. The tracing files are saved at %systemroot%tracing folder. On both the NPS server and the client, please compress the 'tracing' folder to a zip file.

After I updated my ipod with the iOS 4.3, the volume and lock buttons stopped working.
This has happened before and it'sprobably one of the most annoying problems ever.
The lock button tends to stop working but then works again only when it wants to, but the volume buttons dont work at all.
When the locked button worked again I turned it off and turned it on again, but it didnt fix the problem.
I've pretty much tried everything that I've read and nothing seems to work.
So now, I don't know what to do.
Should I take it to a random apple store or to where I bought it from?

If you have restored in iTunes on a computer and the problem remains then it's a hardware fault and it needs to be repaired. When you update the iOS version on an iOS device it checks the hardware components, this is when it'll detect un-diagnosed hardware faults and the components will stop working.. even if they were working previously

Hi! I recently bought an Epson Stylus TX210 All-In-One printer. I installed the drivers and software bundled in the included CD and I used it without any problems for 2 days, until the I was prompted to download Epson Printer Drivers 2.1. After the installation, I noticed that whenever I wanted to print anything, the 'Print' blue glowing button in the print dialogue won't do anything and no matter how many times I pressed it, it didn't continue the printing process. I've tried everything to solve the issue, but so far anything has worked properly.
Thing I've done:
-Trashed the EPSON folder in HDLibraryPrinters
-Repaired permissions.
-Reset printing system.
-Reinstall the CD drivers.
-Redownload the Epson Printer Drivers 2.1.
-Delete bundled software.
I've tried every possible combination of the steps above, and so far here's the state of my printed:
-I can print a Test Page directly using Option and Supplies opftion under the Printer and Fax settings.
-Scanner works.
-The 'Print' button is no longer stuck, but every attempt to print fails. The printing status reads: 'Error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpll failed'
-I'm printing by connecting the printer directly through the USB port.
Is there anything I can do? I would gladly appreciate any help!

I would like to inform everyone that I've successfully solved my problem and now my printer works again!
The actual solution this this problem is a combination of various tips on this thread, but finally I found the exact steps and files needed.
1-If you installed drivers from the CD included in the printer, first uninstall them by opening each individual installer on the /Commons/ folder on the CD. After the installer prompts you for the password, select the 'uninstall' option on the drop-down menu on the top left section of the window. Make sure you run the uninstall option -if possible- on all installers included on the CD.
2-Trash the HDLibraryPrintersEPSON folder and empty the Trash Can. There's going to be a couple of files being in use and you won't be able to delete them -yet-.
3-Reboot and disconnect your printer.
4-Empty the Trash Can again. The remaining files should be gone by now.
5-Go to System Preferences/Printer and Fax, right-click on the printer list and reset the printing system.
6-Go to http://www.epson.com.ph/epson/drivers/driver_download.htm?dc=1&mode=3&m=false&ca tid=4&pid=1473 and download the Epson Stylus TX210 Driver for Mac OS X. -Note: I tried multiple versions of the TX210 drivers found online and this particular version was the only one that worked. It's interesting that the this for both the SX210 and TX210, and the installers that only contained the TX210 drivers didn't work-. If for some reason the page changes, the name of the file you're looking for is SX210Series652EMP2.dmg
7-Run the installer.
8-Connect your printer and go to System Preferences/Printer and Fax. The printer should be recognized and ready to print.

Two days ago Premiere Elements 10 worked fine. Now it is complaining that the GEForce 220 video card required a driver update. But I have the latest driver. Other users are having the same problem, from what I see on the GeForce support community. Is this something Adobe can fix?

I have a first generation Airport Express. Although it appears on the Airplay screen on my iPad and iPhone 5 (using iOS 7.1.2) the music does not play through the Airport Express. Extensions like Ghostery, WOT or AdBlock stop working after two or three times. Restarting the webpage in a new tab the extensions will work again for several times and then stop again. Has anybody an explanation or a workaround for this bug in Safari 5?

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add '2 + 3.'
I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like ' USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.

The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.

I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.

The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service..
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
Some clarification:
* It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
* The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

Required Hardware

Apple TV running the Take2 update firmware version 1, since version 1.1 doesn't have AFP and VNC support.

Before you begin:

All commands are to be run one at a time. Do not try pasting everything in and running all at once.

If you plan on attaching an external USB drive to a 2.0/2.1 Apple TV, you probably want to be able to transfer files via AFP. If so, you need to create a restore.dmg from a 1.0 factory Apple TV before you go to step 1.

For those without unzip installed on your ATV, open up a terminal window on your Mac and do the following;

The SSH password is frontrow you should now be logged onto your AppleTV to perform the below steps.

From the AppleTV menu go to nitoTV -> Settings -> Install Software and install in the below order.
1. Perian, say NO when asked to use Perian h.264 instead of Quicktime's
2. mplayer codecs
3. Turbo's Kextloader
4. Smart Installer (not the updater) - MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.dmg and 'recovery.dmg' (thanks to docbrown at boxee:forum) must be placed in /Users/frontrow/Documents/ on your AppleTv.

4 Install Perian and other Quicktime Components

5) Install AFP

Both the processes listed below (Auto and Manual) presume a 1.0 recovery partition on the AppleTV, and have been tailored towards that. Many of the files can likely be gotten from the 10.4.9 combo updater, but probably not all (this needs to be verified)--BonesSK 03:16, 9 April 2008 (CEST). A full install of 10.4.9 on an Intel Mac would also do nicely, but both the script and the manual process would need to be tweaked in order to properly get and place the files.

If you are running leopard 10.5+, you may want to install 10.4 onto an external drive (USB drive, firewire, iPod etc) to get files. --BonesSK 03:30, 9 April 2008 (CEST)

This is my trick to get AFP working on my AppleTV 2.3 and might also work on previous versions. Now i can mount my ATV disks and manage it's content more easy. It's inspired on kupan787's script. Instead of the 10.4.9 update.dmg that kupan787 uses i picked my 10.4.8 update DVD from my macbook.
It works on AppleTV 3.0

Download the update DMG that corresponds to the 2.x version you are currently running on your Apple TV. For example if you are running 2.3 download Take 2.3 DMG and mount it.
Apple doesn't keep online older update DMGs, Apple TV firmwares has links to most versions that are still available from Apple.
Download the kernel patcher for intel mac (or follow similar steps using kernel patcher for windows), and extract the three files into a folder
Copy the file mach_kernel.prelink from the mounted image (it is in the root directory) and place it in the same folder as the kernel patcher files you just extracted.
Open up terminal and do the following:

Once the kernel is patched, rename it to mach_kernel.prelink and place it in your AppleTVUpdate folder on your desktop

Download Turbo's Apple TV kernel extension enabler turbo_atv_enabler.bin and place it in your AppleTVUpdate folder on your desktop. Rename it to turbo_kext_enabler.bin (this is for compatibility as most guides and scripts refer to this enabler by it's old file name)

To obtain the kexts, use Pacifist and it's search function to extract only the needed files. They can be found in either 10.4.9 Combo Update (Intel) or the recovery.dmg created earlier in this guide.

Once all the files are ready in the AppleTVUpdate folder on your desktop, copy them to your Apple TV using scp:

8) Install MacFUSE/sshfs

This will allow you to access appletv files from your mac. If you have an external hard disk, instead of attaching it to your machine, attach it to your apple tv. Your apple tv can access the media and your laptop can access the files wirelessly from anywhere. Also avoids using the command line and good for copying files back to your laptop from your apple tv.

Restart machine
Install sshfs on Mac from here

One problem with Take 2 is that installing kerberos is a big pain, so you always need to use ssh v1. To make sure sshfs understands this, edit your ~/.ssh/config (or create it) and add

After that, you can run sshfs and in connect dialog, put in hostname as AppleTV.local, password as frontrow. I put in the optional root dir as / but you can leave it empty and it will default to the home dir on apple tv.

9) Install mount_smbfs

--Elchubi 09:55, 6 April 2008 (CEST) Success! Watchdog is on the kernel.. Just replace /mach_kernel.prelink with the one from 1.0 and follow the same steps from that version. Some things stop working like AirTunes, so it is a tradeoff

Aftermath

At this point your AppleTV should come back up with full 1080i/1080p support, AirTunes working, HD Rentals working, AFP running, USB working (and the drive should automount), ATVFiles should be running, and ssh should be working. You can access your apple tv from your laptop just like some other shared disk.
